Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamburg and slipped to second position in the German Bundesliga.

Title chasers Schalke 04 and Monchengladbach both dropped points owing to draws.

Hamburg's young midfielder Jacopo Sala opened the scoring for his side in the 23rd minute to shock the Bavarians.

However, Hamburg then retracted and defended deep in their own half.

After the break, Bayern took more risks and were rewarded for their endeavours as Croat striker Ivica Olic got the equaliser in the 71st minute.

Bayern slipped from first position to second with 41 points while Hamburg stay on 11th position with 23 points.

"We have shown a good performance. We staged a good defence and we never gave up," Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
