In recent years, uncontrolled deforestation has led to many animal species plus flora and fauna on the verge of extinction. Saving natural habitat is highly important for biodiversity of our planet. There are several natural habitats under attack due to intentional and unintentional damage caused by humans. One of the most common issues is overuse of resources. It has become crucial and necessary to voice a concern and raise awareness to save natural environment and fight against global warming. There are many species becoming extinct due to destruction of their natural habitat, especially migratory species which relies on more than two habitats. Across the world many organizations as well as individuals are working to raise awareness for the same.
Art has always been a major medium to express ideas and messages in every culture. Art is a universal language which appeals to all communities and to people of all ages.
In effort to raise awareness to save natural habitat, in April 2022, Inspired by Earth Day celebration one such event was organized by Art-impact International in association with Art for Good cause. This event was orchestrated to raise awareness through art, an art competition as well as online exhibition. The event was successfully completed, and the top ten winners were chosen from over 100 paintings submitted from artists across the world. The winners for the exhibition 'Save habitat, Save the Planet' were announced on Earth Day 2022. O Yemi Tubi, Aravind Krishanan, Eileen Williams, Cristine Wells, Warren A Jackson, Victoria Hank, Younes Ansari, Roslyn Cambridge, Sunny Franson, Marcia K Neal were among the top ten winners for this competition. The event was juried by Komal Patel, Carolyn Goodridge and Jibin George.
Komal Patel, self-taught artist from India has been active in art since 2012, and Occupational therapist by profession; she uses art to help her clients and promote their creativity. She has also authored two books to help emerging artists learn and grow their artistic skills. In 2020, she started an initiative to promote artists with disabilities called 'Art and Ability'. The inspiration for this initiative is her profession and her clients. Art and ability initiative was started to promote artists living with disability and provide them platform to promote their artworks. Carolyn Goodridge, founder and executive director of Art-impact international, A nonprofit organization. Carolyn is a renowned independent artist who is passionate about making a positive change in the world through art. Jibin George, founder of Art for Good cause who was also a sponsor of this event believes in brining art as powerful tool that can influence the people and society to do good. Art for good cause was created as an effort to spread social awareness through Art. He has initiated the international art competitions based on the topics, Global Warming, Protect Kids from Tobacco and The Endangered etc.
'Save habitat, Save the Planet' event was an effort from a group of artists who came together to raise awareness and help our planet. The importance of natural habitat was depicted in all artworks. The exhibition is now open online on Art impact international as well as Art for Good cause websites.
