Five-star cornerback Tony Grimes committed to North Carolina in a livestreamed ceremony on Tuesday.
Grimes, who is entering his senior season at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach (Va.), is the No. 7 overall recruit in the Class of 2021 according to the 247 Sports composite.
ESPN and Rivals ranked Grimes as the No. 1 cornerback recruit, and he was widely ranked as a top-five defensive player.
Grimes received scholarship offers from so many programs that he narrowed his list of options to 40 prior to the start of his junior season in 2019.
By the end of his season, Georgia, Texas AM, Ohio State and North Carolina were revealed as finalists.
Listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Grimes played cornerback and wide receiver last season. He had 48 tackles and four interceptions on defense, with 12 touchdowns and 715 all-purpose yards in 2019.
